Wow... ... I agree with everything you wrote! Great song (one of the few "modern" Christmas songs I care for) and I like U-2, but I much prefer the original version. "Haunting" describes it well!
I loved this song from the first time I heard it when I was a wee one myself. But I didn't want to put too many "downer" songs on. I forgo-ed Jethro Tull and The Pogues,
I find it very funny when I hear pieces of "Fairytale of New York" in news and adds with out the nasty parts of the songs.
I also wanted to stay away from too many kiddy songs. I loved the Black Cat in the Hat. That guy is wicked funny.
